Save those Pilgrims! Mrs Williams 6th grade science classes had a STEM activity where they had to build a boat out of aluminum foil to see how many marbles it would hold. The "Pilgrims" were flat marbles and each marble was equivalent to ten Pilgrims. The students had many different designs and overall did an amazing job. Our largest save was 239 marbles, or 2390 Pilgrims.

Today in Social Studies with Mrs. Murphy: Mrs. Laughlin's class had fun tracking Tommy Turkey on his Thanksgiving adventure using Google Maps. Such a fun way to learn about Longitude and Latitude. Plus we got to use the table lamps and turn out the big lights so everyone was happy!

A huge thank you to Dylan Pollard from Air Evac LifeTeam 21 in Elk City for visiting with Mrs. Pollard's ELA class! He shared a message about the importance of reading and helped introduce the novel, "My Side of the Mountain" by Jean Craighead George. This book was one of five amazing titles our sixth graders were able to choose from, and thanks to school support, EVERY student will receive their own book of choice! 📚 ✨ We're excited to dive into our reading adventure! #ECISReadingChallenge #FORtheBrownAndWhite

Our teacher of the week is Mrs. Burton. She works hard to ensure every student understands the 5th grade math standards. She uses data to improve instruction. Mrs. Burton is a great teammate to our 5th grade team!
Our word of the month for November is respect. Each homeroom picked students who are respectful every day and they received a certificate. Another great week of being FOR the BROWN and WHITE!

Our first GT lesson of the year in early September was an adventure! 🧭🔥
Students explored Outdoor Survival, thinking strategically through real-world scenarios and identifying what tools and skills they’d need to stay safe. They learned how to read a compass and even designed their own trail maps. We added a fun (and slightly brave!) twist by letting students try “survival food” — lollipops with bugs inside! 🐛🍭
A huge thank you to Brian Pierce with the Elk City Fire Department for demonstrating how to safely build and extinguish a campfire. The Elk City Fire Department's expertise was an incredible addition to our lesson.
To wrap up our unit, students traveled to Crowder Lake near Weatherford, where they spent the day kayaking and wall-rappelling — an unforgettable hands-on experience that tested their teamwork, courage, and outdoor skills. 🚣♂️🧗♀️
A special thank you to NHS members Abner Reyes, Hope Metcalf, and Jess Nightingale for volunteering their time and using their lifeguard certification to help supervise kayaking on the lake. Your support helped make the day safe and successful! I am so proud of this group of students and their willingness to learn, try new things, and step outside their comfort zones! 🌟
