December 5, 2023 Dear Elk City Public School Families, My purpose for writing to you tonight is to address the events of the last few days. First I would like to thank the Elk City School Resource Officers, Elk City High School Administrators, and the Elk City Police Department. Everyone did what was required to ensure the safety of our students and staff. As the superintendent, I am very grateful for their actions yesterday and everyday. I moved my family to Elk City three years ago. My wife teaches at Elk City High School. My children attend Elk City High School and Elk City Middle School. Their safety, as well as every child and staff member, will always be my top priority. Elk City Public Schools and the Elk City Police Department have a great working relationship. This will not change and will continue to be a priority to help ensure the safety and well being of all students and staff. While the events yesterday and rumors that have followed are deeply troubling, I want you to know that ECPS has not stopped working in order to bring safety and normalcy back to our schools. Elk City is my home the same as it is yours. All of us working together can help ensure that events like this never happen again. As adults, our children are counting on us! What We Do Matters! Mike Sparks, Superintendent
