Elk City Public Schools proudly announces the district-wide implementation of the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), developed by the non-profit The "I Love U Guys" Foundation, to enhance campus safety and emergency preparedness.
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) establishes a unified, plain-language framework shared by Elk City Public Schools teachers, staff, students, and parents, alongside regional first responders including the Elk City Police Department, Beckham County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).
Core Concepts of the Shared Language
· Plain Terminology: Replaces confusing codes with standardized, action-oriented vocabulary.
· All-Hazards Approach: Standardizes reactions regardless of the specific underlying incident or threat.
· Agency Synchronization: Ensures local and state law enforcement immediately understand what operational posture the schools have taken
· The Core Purpose:
o Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol.
o The premise is simple – there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders.

o Hold: Clears the hallways for situations like medical emergencies.
o Secure: Gets everyone inside and locks outside doors during threats near the campus.
o Lockdown: Uses "locks, lights, out of sight" for active threats inside the building.
o Evacuate: Moves students and staff to a designated location.
o Shelter: Protects the school from severe weather or environmental hazards.
· Why It Matters: Using the same words everywhere helps everyone understand what to do during an emergency without confusion.
