ECPS Press Release

ECPS

I believe that one of the most important responsibilities that I have as the Elk City Superintendent, is to ensure that our students have every opportunity to receive a great education.  To ensure student success, it is essential to create an environment for our staff to thrive as professional educators.  While no school or student should be judged solely on academic testing outcomes, outcomes are used to measure student growth.  Testing outcomes measure the work that students and teachers engage in over the course of a school year and test results  do tell a story about a school district.  During the 2024-2025 school year, the students and teachers of Elk City Public Schools demonstrated continued academic success.  Elk City students were measured in English Language Arts, Math, and Science.  The Oklahoma State Testing Program recorded 2117 academic outcomes for our students.  Outcomes are then reported by the percentage of students scoring at or above their current grade level and by the percentage of students scoring at college or career ready.  When comparing the academic performance for Elk City students and their peers across Oklahoma, Elk City students outperformed their peers by double digits in every category.  For example, when comparing all three subject areas tested, 75% of Elk City students scored at or above grade level.  The average for Oklahoma was 59%.  Continuing to look at all subject areas, 40% of Elk City students achieved College or Career Readiness.  The average for Oklahoma was 28%.  When looking at each individual area of study, Elk City students consistently achieved at a higher level than reported for the State of Oklahoma.

Subject Area % At or Above Grade Level % College or Career Read

Math EC - 80%     Oklahoma - 60% EC - 44%     Oklahoma 29%

Science EC - 79%     Oklahoma - 56% EC - 49%     Oklahoma 34%

ELA EC - 70%     Oklahoma - 60% EC - 34%     Oklahoma 24%

The continuous academic achievement and growth by our students, continues to demonstrate that our students are supported by their families, live in a caring community, and are taught by dedicated, professional teachers.  The success of our students further demonstrates that Elk City Public Schools does not rank 50th nationally!
