Our most important responsibility at Elk City Elementary is to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. We would like to take this opportunity to explain our pick-up policy in hopes that we can provide insight and understanding into why we take student pick-up so seriously.

All adults coming to pick students up in the dismissal lines will need to present a car tag or have one visible in the vehicle. We will provide durable car tags for the family members of each child. If you know you’ll be needing more, you may purchase additional tags for $4 in the front office. If a car tag is not presented, please be prepared to go into the office to sign your child out and receive a temporary car tag for the day. The reason for this procedure is to verify through photo ID that you are listed as one of the designated pick-up people for the child. We also ask that guardians be prepared to show photo ID when coming to pick up a child at any time during the school day. Students will not be released to adults who are not on the pick-up list or who do not provide a photo ID in order to verify that they are on the list.

We will do our best to apply reasonableness, grace, and common sense, as we know forgetfulness can happen to all of us, but we ask for understanding that we may offer a reminder to bring ID, even if we recognize you. This is so that substitutes and other staff members who may not know you are able to ensure that students go home with the right adults. It may or may not be your child’s teacher who dismisses him or her each day, and although our office staff members try to learn the faces of all guardians, it is just not possible in a school of over 800 students.
